Tout Suite

Following the story of the Office Suite, my design for Tout Suite took after the clear techno inspiration from the music selected for this section of the trilogy. My projections followed suite, emphasizing the office environment, viewed through the fanciful ‘dayglo on wall street’ aesthetic.

Design Concepts

My preliminary research focused mostly on both the color palette of the dayglo aesthetic I drew inspiration from, and the striking angles and simplistic shapes of the buildings to contrast with the vibrant colors that I wanted to showcase.

Iteration

  • The initial sketches, layered under what would eventually become the final design.

The simple designs of the spaces to be projected helped get the point across quickly- these dancers are office workers- and then easily fade into the background as the audience focuses on the dance itself.

  • On the technical side of things, I utilized Clip Studio Paint for the line art and coloring, utilizing a color picker to pull the desired fill directly from my research images.

I also utilized the OSC function of our equipment to slave the projection opacity directly to the lighting console, which ensure the projections would get brighter in the ‘alleys’ where the dancers performed during their solos and duets, and then dim when the focus moved elsewhere.
